Moving Off is the first manoeuvre you will perform, needing a basic understanding of clutch control,
and also introducing some routines that will be used throughout your driving life.
|
Routines needed for moving off and Stopping

Prepare
Observe

The picture on the right shows the vehicle starting at the parked position at the bottom
After completing the cockpit drill
Insure that the Handbrake is on (Up Position), Make sure the vehicle is in neutral, then start the engine.
Now we would use the POM routine
Prepare, Clutch down, hold it down, Select linktitle2 gear, clutch to biting point
Have the Handbrake ready to release in your right hand
Observe, take a good look around the vehicle, 360 Degrees
Check center mirror / right mirror
Check right shoulder blind spot
Signal only if there is someone to signal too, (including Pedestrians)
Move, if all clear, clutch very gently up while gently increasing the gas
Once moving steer slightly to the right to the normal driving position, One meter from the kerb
Steer left to straighten the car, Check center mirror

First we use the Second routine MSM
Mirror check Center Mirror / Left Mirror
Signal left only if there is someone to signal too, (including Pedestrians)
Manoeuver, steering very gently to the left, position the vehicle back next to the kerb
steering right to straighten the vehicle
This is where we use the third routine SCALP
Safe Convenient And Legal Position, for example do not park-
on a bus stop, near a junction, oppisite a junction, across a driveway, to close to another vehicle, on yellow lines, etc....
Clutch down, then gently press the brake until the vehicle stops
Securing the vehicle
Keep your hands on the steering wheel until the vehicle stops
Apply the handbrake, select neutral with the gear stick
