The object of this page is to give an understanding as to where you can see,
and where you cannot see around the vehicle using your normal vision and the mirrors

The purple area is what you can see when looking straight ahead out of the windscreen

Peripheral vision coloured light Blue is what you can see from the corner of your eye

Nearside Blind spot coloured Orange/Red, this is the area that is not covered by either mirror, as you can see this fans out to quite a wide area, showing the dangers of not checking the blind spots

Note, zones of vision will change in different makes of vehicle due to the mirror design and the window / door pillars

Offside Blind spot Probably the most important, you should check this area whenever you pull away, by turning your head and looking over your right shoulder, however, when moving on dual carrageways or motorways a sideways glance should be all that is needed.

Interior Mirror this is the area you can see when looking into the interior mirror

Door Mirrors coloured Yellow, this is the area you can see when looking into the side / door mirrors

IMPORTANT

When looking into the mirrors it is important to remember that other vehicles you see in the door mirrors
will appear further away than they actually are. This is due to some makes of vehicle using convexed glass.

Convexed (seems further away)

Flat (correct distance form rear)

From the information above you can see the importance of setting the mirrors correctly,
hence this should be done during the Cockpit Drill every time you enter a vehicles driving seat (even your own)
